Big City - 'Light On'
Timing, so they say, is everything in comedy and it can be fairly instrumental in music too. This October will see the release of BIG CITY’s debut offering 'Light On' and the burgeoning Leeds duo have timed their emergence perfectly.

As their first single will be released in the after-glow of their hero Stevie Wonder’s fervently-anticipated sets at two heavyweight festivals - Glastonbury and Hard Rock Calling. Signed to Standard Records after the label were bowled over by a performance at Mayfair’s exclusive Embassy Club, the West Yorkshire two-piece belied their tender years by performing in a number of musical collectives before taking their first steps on the road to stardom as BIG CITY.
Inspired by the classic soul and pop sound of Motown legends like Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson – a handed down vinyl copy of the King of Pop’s Dangerous album was also extremely pivotal – as well as our own Jamiroquai, it inspirited the pair to put their own youthful spin on the genre.
This brought them to the attention of Ivor Novello-winning and Grammy-nominated songwriter John Beck. Best-known for his work with Corinne Bailey Rae and Paloma Faith, they went on to collaborate, while the BBC also took notice - awarding them a couple of grants to further their recording and production career.
Due for release on 25 October, the first taster of their collective efforts, Light On, is an ultra-fresh, sassy slice of modern pop, which demands to illuminate the mainstream airwaves.
